Throwing spear

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a good functional throwing spearhead?

I have seen the Viking Throwing Spearhead by Paul Chen, and although I like the overall shape I think that it is primarily for decorative use.

And thanks for a great informative website Matt

I made a ratyhr cool training device - a marati - for Indian martial arts by taking two Chen hewing spear heads and fixing them to either end of a wooden haft, making a doulbe headed spear. I then sharpened the blades.

I took it along to the Gunpowder Mills event, and left it there with the swords for some test-cutting, if someone wanted to have a go.
They did, and one of the heads bent at the neck almost at right angles, by striking a plastic bottle of water.
It didn't cut the bottle, either.

So I would recommend Chen spearheads for waving at targets, but not actually throwing at them.

If uoi want something functional, why not get something from one of the Czech makers?

Hi Michael - what about these cheap ones?:

I reckon they're great value, though I haven't seen one in real life.. but at that price it's hard to mess up badly!

I like swords more than you.
