Old HEMA by a french author at the end of the XIXth century!

Adolphe Corthey, a contemporary of Egerton Castle and Hutton wrote several small studies on the history of fencing masters and weapons from Marozzo.
He also practiced, and made friends with these public demonstrations in Paris!

We have few of them :

L'escrime à travers les âges.
Chez Charles Dupont, 1898, Paris

Rapport au sujet de la transformation de l'épée de combat.

Chez Camproger, 1895, Paris

http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k133206m

Français & Prussiens, armes blanches et armes à feu.

chez Delorme ; Paris; 1887

(Sorry for german people, this third books is just a concentrate of old racist bullshit! But this does not detract from the other two!)

Review of this 3 on de Taille et d'estoc forum!

L'escrime à travers les âges is the real deal-- starting with Marozzo, and with some attention to e.g. Saint Didier, and subsequent manuals.

NB his chap. 2 on L'épée à 2 mains" or spadone, using Marozzo-- Corthey and his chums gave demonstrations of 2-handed sword or longsword, using antiques-- both practitioners and audiences were surprised and impressed by the design of the weapon, the comprehensive nature of the system of guards and attacks, and the subtleness and thoughtfulness of the art.
