Skimmed a piece by O. Buchsenschutz on Celtic world ca. 300-200 BC (between Halstatt princely polities of say 500 BC and the Late Iron age urban settlements of ca. 100 BC, there is an age of dispersed settlement, aristocratic societies characterized by war, high arts, and expansion).

A paragraph or two on weapons, especially on the birth of the classic Celtic sword, with a few sentences on the scabbard. Britain keeps bronze scabbards, but that's because of the archaism of Celtic Britain; mainland Celtic scabbards are hi-tech iron affairs, thin sheet iron with finials, very closely adjusted to sword blade (very little "jeu", windage). The scabbards were apparently dissassemblable for maintenance
I thought this might interest scabbard geeks on this forum.
