The only reason you don't like that look is because you don't have the calves for it. :P

Indeed. Its no funnier than wearing a pair of pyjamas for Eastern arts. Or those big baggy trousers with the stripe down the side. Whats that all about.

Also as somebody who went to school until I was 12 in shorts with socks up to my knees it also makes me feel right at home. I still pull my sports sock right up at all times in case my old P6 teacher catches me.

Breeches are awesome. 30% of the reason I fence. Admirable for both calves AND genitalia? truly a divine garment. If we could get away with dressing however we wanted then I literally would spend all day in breeches with a loose tunic shirt. Maybe a large hat with feathers.

I would champion trousers like these if my physical attributes were a deciding factor in this:

High degree of piercing penetration from the knee upward; slight abrasion resistance and good ventilation from the knee downward. Knickers (US term) / breeches (UK term) just plain make sense with piercing weapons. They protect your femoral artery marvelously while not overheating you like full-length pants of the same material would.

Actually they don't wear pants at all.

I'm pretty sure "jacket" is a euphemism, too.

I know people who do that. Also know people who don't wear plastrons under their jackets. I personally don't think omitting either is a particularly good idea.

In fairness, sport fencing breeches will not stop a broken rapier or longsword blade any more than a regular pair of trousers. We know because we've tested them and it's like stabbing a t-shirt. Can we keep this on topic or start a new one though please.

People who have read the forum for years, never post anything, but when they do it's about how they annoy themselves because they should post more.

People who use German terms for everything. I genuinely can not follow lots of the stuff posted here due to a variety of random words.

EDIT: PS Vom Tag just sounds stupid and nonsensical. I would not be averse to numbering the guards.

People into Bartitsu (and related activities) who spend far more of their time discussing what historical training kit they have researched and made than actually doing any Bartitsu.

People that think German terminology is the specific lingo for every form of HEMA regardless of where it originated.

people that insist you can't translate the term to English, as if the Italian or German term is somehow magical and needs special reverence.

I never had to learn the Japanese for Punch...
