First time I've seen it, anyone know this guy Robert Charrette?

I have been waiting for some time now for Guy Windsor's new book (used copies of The Swordsman's Companion are selling for $90.00 on Amazon) I have been looking for other translations/interpretations of Fiore, this certainly looks interesting.

I know the guy from his work on roleplaying games (he wrote campaign stuff for Shadowrun), but did'nt know he was into HEMA.
I'm looking forward to a review.

He has apparently written several fantasy novels, though no martial arts related books show up under his name at Amazon. I would really like to add a trans/interpretation of Fiore to my fencing library, think I'll wait for a review though. :|

Interesting - I have never heard of him, but that doesn't mean anything - the book might be really good. Looking forward to a review.

Heres what Jake Norwood had to say over at HEMAA forum:

"I've got it, though I haven't read through it yet (still working through other pieces in my library). Of the Fiore books I've seen, it's the most thorough by a wide margin. It actually made me want to study Fiore a little bit."

"I think really highly of Bob. He's taught at both Longpoints, and was one of the first members of the HEMA Alliance, though he's more active in the WMAW/SFI community. I've seen him do armored fighting and Fiore's dagger, and I've been impressed by both."

You left out the part about how that thought made him taste vomit in his mouth. :P

I was planning on getting this one anyway, simply as a matter of principle because it is a published book on Fiore. The presentation looks impressive at least.
Is there a way of getting the book in Europe, particularly the UK?

This is what I wrote on the HEMAA forums.

"I haven't seen it yet but I have heard very good things about it, it is defiantly on my to buy list.

From what I understand Bob has incredible knowledge of the historical context and has but a whole lot of research into the Fiore manuscripts. He gave a talk at 600 which I attended, into the structure of the dagger material which really opened up some lines of thought to me. If the rest of the book is anything like this it will be great.

I believe that it is not so much an interpretation, which lets face it are two a penny, as a guide on how to look at the manuscript and it's connections which I think is much more useful."

I thought more people knew who he is? From what I under stand he is part of La Belle (http://www.labelle.org) company a 14th LH group (he is the knight in The Peel Affinity iirc). Don't let that put you off though from what I understand he is very knowledgeable and has done a lot of research on it. As I said I met him last year and he has done a lot of work on this for a long time.

I have spoken with some one who has this and heard very positive things about it, I just don't have the cash flow for it at the moment or I would have it already myself.

Kult of Athena does ship to Europe, not sure what the postage would be though.

I'm a little surprised that this book is not available through Amazon, several of his other titles are listed there.

I've not used them, but friends recommend bundlebox.com for US to UK shipping for sites that don't like our money.
