That doesn't mean there's no point in training it once we've finished Fiore's plays. Or we'd have stopped longsword long ago!

True ;)

But nonetheless there are other reasons as well..

..notably the send off Nigel wants us to give George - with a good spanking .. err, sparring to remember us by!

Sorry to hear this mate! I would like a last spar with you, given that, about a year ago, I started with you... Closing the circle kind of thing...

All the best to you to... We will keep in touch through the forum... Maybe a visit to Greece once I find something similar there?

:D

Very well, George fought 11 bouts, first to three hits, one after the other & got 10 wins & 1 draw (an excellant bout with Tim G). He was close to puking after 30 mins of non stop free play, but carried on to the end. A stunning performance. Well done George

Emery you have something to live up to in a couple of weeks.

P.s. Christina videoed it, so hopefully it'll be on line at some stage.

Just want to say thanks to Kit Mitchell who came over last night & to apologise for twisting her arm into giving a lesson on George Silver.

It was hugely appreciated & enjoyed by everyone.

Cheers, Nigel

Lesson Summary: Thurs.24/6/2010

Last night Nigel wasn't available to take the class. So we covered the fundementals of Fiore's Longsword; pairing up experienced students with novice students, each observing the other and relaying critique for mutual improvement and a better understanding of cutting technique.

From Posta deDonna :-

> Fendente: We broke down the movement of the cut, performed without footwork.

> Fendente: We broke down the movement of the cut performed with footwork.

> Fendente: Cut through - draw the blade back, come to Boars Tooth / dente de cinghiarre (Low Guard).

> Fendente: Cut through into Boars Tooth (as above) - Rabbat (leading with the false edge, accelerating the tip, Parry with flat of the blade) into Corona / Frontale / Crown (High Guard) - Back to Posta deDonna.

We ended with Questions & Answeres session.

I'm glad you all enjoyed the training and I apologize for any mis - spelling of the Italian terms.

See you all next week (hopefully) ---(-----------

Seeing as Nigel is ignoring my various attempts at contact I feel obliged to put this here instead, so that the SG8 members can be part of the dialogue.

SG8 is currently operating under Schola Gladiatoria's name, benefitting in numerous ways from membership. Nigel is a Free Scholar in SG1 and like most other SG1 Free Scholars almost everything he knows about Fiore was learned at SG1. I allowed SG8 to be opened as a favour to Nigel - it doesn't really do anything for me personally and he gets the profits - I gain nothing from it financially or in reputation and in fact you could say that I lose out, as it attracts some students who would otherwise probably come to SG1, as we do share catchment zones to some extent. I am however very happy that SG8 was started and that it has a small core of loyal and regular members, and that SG8 has introduced more people to HEMA.

The question now is, why should SG8 remain in Schola? Obviously to start the group Schola's patronage was essential, but is it still appropriate? Personally I think that it might be time to consider devolution and making SG8 into a separate and new group. My feeling on this is encouraged by how very difficult it is to get Nigel to communicate - to try and overcome that we created an SG8 group of assistants, but frankly that does not solve the problem. To justify allowing a chapter to operate in Schola Gladiatoria's name I have to know how those classes are being conducted, and I can not hand-on-heart say that of SG8 anymore, because of a lack of communication. I am very confident in how Paul and Colin are running SG6, but I am not very confident in how Nigel is running SG8. From an insurance point of view alone that is a bad thing, not to mention Schola's reputation which has taken me a decade to establish. I have also been disappointed by the lack of interest from SG8 in Schola events, such as the Christmas Bash, and do not really get the impression that SG8 have an interest in being part of Schola (though of course I'm happy to be proven otherwise!).

I'll reiterate, I want what is best for Schola Gladiatoria. Maybe Schola Gladiatoria is better with SG8 remaining a chapter? Maybe there is another way to function? Maybe I need to appoint a new or joint leader for SG8?

Members of SG8, I welcome your thoughts on this :).
I actually consider the membership of SG8 more important than Nigel at this point, so I want to know what you guys want and how you see things.
