As the weather was quite nice, I toonk on to take new piccies of the Marwie knife (would have done the same with the Patrickettu if it wasn't packed and almost ready for shimpent). These ones does better justice to the piece IMO :

See? I told you that writing "Happy Birthday" or in this case "Birthday Present" on the outside would help. The shippers mangled the box, however and there's a good sized crack in the dark wood on the handle, but it's still quite lovely and it's here! It fits my hand quite nicely and, well, it's beautiful. Thanks, Fab.

I have to say that shipping is not very kind on wood, even if its well seasoned and stabilized.

Changes in temp, humidity, etc do really weird things and it does take its toll.

Oh, it's not a problem, Thom. This sort of thing is

a) to be expected and
b) adds character and charm to the piece.

I'm as happy as a little clamato with my stylettu, just as she is.

And so, as it has been said elsewhere, a left-hand dagger. Not for sale, but in happy hands now I hope - I myself am quite satisfied with what Fate, or luck, decided.

If the new owner would be kind enough to take some measurements of it, it would be appreciated as I had to finish it in a rush.



It is again based on things I saw and played with in various collections. The idea was to make a dagger that would suit my needs in terms of features :
- wide quillions, at a 45° angle with the blade, to better catch and block the opponent's blade
- long, sharp and pointy blade - you're meant to kill with it, not just defend - yet still strong and able to withstand some abuse
- wide side ring to give good hand protection
- good pommel, teardrop-shaped cuz I like it
- thumb depression on the ricasso
- fancy fittings, blued because I wanted to try out.

The cross guard is hand forged and file-worked from a single piece of mild steel. The pommel is hand-forged almost to shape.
Blade is 1075 steel, diff quench (only the edges trhough subtle temperature control), tempered to blue for toughness.
Thanks to my little helpers in the forging process.

Fittings have been fire-blued as was done at this time.
Brass and steel wire on the grip.

Scabbard is as usual.

I am slowly getting around to making myself a scabbard for my training blunt (just for the experience of doing it really) but I am having a bit of trouble working out what to do about a chape.
