The times we keep missing each other shall be compensated in Port. It'd better be soon, or there won't be enough Port in this world.

TBH Sigismund's armour is even too small for me. I'm about the same size as Maximilian, however...

Dear Claus, dear Fabrice,

I am so sory to tell you: But the armour is gone. It's mine now. I tried it, a perfect fit. Here I am, with the helmet already in place:

I told you, Claus, I'd go to the Rüstkammer on Monday, didn't I?

I must say it matches well with your jacket. Most elegant.

My respect and gratitude to Dreynschlag for organizing and hosting the fifth annual Dreynevent which by now has become Europe's biggest event for HEMA.
Excellent job!
Thank you guys.

I had a terrific time and was happy to meet old friends - in particular of course our port loving friends from Denmark's Laurentiusgildet. Claus who just came as a regular participant willingly gave away his latest top insights into correct timing and execution of longsword blows in order to prevent hand shots. This could well emerge in a most attractive class next year as there were quite a few thumbs in bandages. Possibly due to the fact that there was almost constant free play going on which was mainly carried out with steel blades. Hardly any shinais, nylons and only a few federn.
Surprised me.
But I like it.

My greetings go out to the many Spaniards, in particular Eugenio (thanks again for the two bottles of Rioja) and Alberto. Thanks to Daniel Jacguet for his friendly translations. I enjoyed meeting Roman from Slovenia for the first time and thus could put another face to a name. Finally had a short chat and a beer with Nick and Michael who apparently travel a lot. So did Matt Galas an so does Mr. Brown, however, he always is either too busy or too tired for me to get hold of him. I will get you next time, Mister!
Tim Gallagher, another regular at events I attend, unfortunately managed to get his thumb flattened Danish style. So we will have to wait till Swordfish to fight again. Never-the-less, he is always good company.

Thanks to everyone who fought me, in particular Claus and Till from Ochs Bamberg for some excellent longsword lessons. Thanks for introducing me to sabre to Marcus, Gehard and Micha. And of course Mathias Ullrich, the toughest fighter that there is.

There were many nice people I wish I would have had spend more time with, e.g. Alex Kiermeyer and Hans Heim.
Thanks for everyone being good company at the Saturday evening feast and at the traditional goodbye dinner at the Turkish restaurant on Sunday.

I would also like to express my respect for the 40+ fencers who attended both parts of Toke's and my class on I.33. You did well and I was impressed by your energy and discipline. It was a pleasure.

I guess I will remember who I forgot to mention the second I hit the SEND button - please don't hold it against me.

It is good to see standards rise from year to year (though I would still wish for even more fit people to play with next time!!!)

All the best,
Roland

sounds like an oscar winning speech to me, so you have forgotten to thank god ;)

thx also to you roland for comming and teaching again and also for your nice words here.

and for the correction... we are only the biggest event where the own club is not bringing up almost 90% of the guests ;) because madrid have usually 170 or more and in italy there also bigger ones, but also filled with own clubmembers. but yes... we ran up to a big thing here in vienna, thx to you all :)

On a more constuctive note . . . .
A major thank you to Dreynschlag for such a fantastic event. Gentlemen (and the odd lady), you were exemplars of good humour and effective organisation whilst under pressure.
Particular thanks to Harry Winter for carting me off to hospital to get patched up - I only hope your own finger is on the mend as well as mine.
Congratulations to Nick for winning the rapier tournament against what seemed to be stiff opposition.
A note to event organisers - if someone mutters something about 'I'm sure I don't need to go to hospital', then take them to hospital regardless.
A European Health Insurance Card is a spectacularly useful thing to take to events on the continent. If we have to put up with the f*&^%$g EU, we may as well utilise what paltry advantages it gives us.
Nigel, you were missed. I hope this is but a temporary abberation.
Fab, you were missed as well. Much sympathy. See you at Dijon.
I am running out of time to do this subject justice, so until next week I will simply echo and reciprocate what my good friends Claus and Roland very kindly wrote.

Tim

A bit late perhaps, I would also like to thank quite a lot of people:

-Thanks to Alberto, Matt, Claus and Peter for showing me nice new stuff to think about (by offering great seminars and explanations)

-Thanks to a very large lot of people for showing me my weaknesses in sparring
(And our new Austrian member for showing me that sabre vs. rapier is a bit... let's say challenging. But I'll gladly try again next year-perhaps with a bit of Meyer's rapier... ;) ).

- And last but not least thanks to the Dreynschlag guys who again organised a really, really, really excellent event and to all the great people for being there.

See you next year in Vienna :)
So Matty struck the very first blow - and he hurt lord Arnold sore.
Lord Arnold struck the very next blow - and Matty struck no more...
