Guy Windsor can not make it to Swordfish this year due to family obligations, his classes will not change however as his assistant Ilkka Hartikainen will cover both Guys classes besides his own.

Too bad - I have always enjoyed Guy's classes.
After all, he made me try smallsword and look like a gay pink poodle with a blade.

Due to lack of time those of us who are updating the news for Swordfish might not always have the time to post news on this forum (though it is a priority), so please check out the news section on the swordfish website (http://www.ghfs.se/swordfish) regularly.

Hi Nick,

too bad you can't make it, we'll hope for next year!

In sthlm I know of at least two groups, the oldest one can be found here:

http://www.vildsvinet.se

there is also another one that can be found here:

http://www.fencer.se

this last group seem to be doing a more SCA-style fighting, though I think I know one or two guys who are members of both groups.

Besides those there are two more study groups that I know of that has no internet presence, and I lack contact info to them as well. If you write on the english forum at our website : http://www.ghfs.se perhaps someone will reply.

there will be singlehanded nylon wasters as well as bucklers for sale during Swordfish, made by Pentti Kangasmaa.

There are rumours about a new longsword waster prototype that will be ready for Swordfish as well, something along the line of a shinai construction (i.e slats) but with nylon or similar material, it is supposed to be modeled on the Albion Meyer.

Hi,

will Mr. Emil Strenge be hosting the cutting classes again this year? I thought I heard mention of him and would love to take part in a class. There wasn't anything about it on the registration form on the swordfish page.....

Only a month to go, can't wait!

Hi Kevin!

glad to hear you will be there this year as well!

Emil won't be able to make it, he is already booked at another place during those days unfortunately.

Here's a dumb query.

I was trying to pay for train tickets online for the Stockholm to Göteborg train. I get to the paying bit online and the feckin online payform won't accept my mobile phone number in any format I put in. This seems to be the only fault in my details, so could someone swedish please tell me how to get around this. I contacted sj as well, but I figured you guys would be quicker off the mark. Basically there are two boxes to fill in, which I assumed were international code followed by the personal number. I live in Finland, so it's +358 in the first box, followed by the abbreviated operator number (1)23, and the personal number 123 45 67. So, what am I doing wrong?

Grrr....

Had this a couple of years ago. If you get past that it wont accept a foreign credit card anyway.

It's an awful system, we got Anders to do it for us in the end. And even he got confused.

Thanks for that Nigel.

Well, shi#@. That is a daft system.

Ok then, next question for the swordfish guys. Is it too much of a risk to leave the booking and just buy the tickets at the Central station in Stockholm on the morning we travel to Göteborg? We're looking to go 2nd class on the 9:07 train which is the cheapest (naturally) option of the morning trains. I'm looking to save all my kroner for the "fine" swedish beer

Hi,
I suggest you try and book by calling them. I would not chance buying the tickets at the station, Sthlm - Gbg is often overbooked. Which I experienced this weekend.

the single handed tournament is cancelled.

We have however almost 20 participants in the nylon tournament and 15 in the shinai tournament so far!

Booking train tickets by phone went swimmingly!

Postby snowcelt » 10 Oct 2008 18:48

Hi,

just wanted to say that I followed Andreas advice to phone the train company sj directly. Had the option to speak english to a very helpful lady who booked my seats without fuss or bother. Paid with me credit card. The whole thing was done in five minutes. Sweet!

Thanks Andreas!
