A heads up for Swordfish -08 October 31- November 2

Postby Axel » 05 Jun 2008 13:51

As the title says, we are deep in planning for this years event, the list of instructors, lecturers and retailers is almost finished and will be released with an official announcement soon, I just wanted to make sure all of you mark your calendar for the above date and book tickets to Gothenburg.

PRICE FOR THE EVENT: 80 euro (800SEK if you are Swedish).

The lineup will feature some of the folks from last year, as well as a lot of new faces, some old in the game, some new, and some old but not perhaps that known in the larger HEMA community, we want o bring new talents into the spotlight. We will host Swordfish in the same place as last year, meaning a huge sports center all for ourselves with sleeping halls, several large halls for practice and sparring, showers (duh), sauna, 24/7 reception, lectures halls, a HEMA shop both with Nidingbane (http://www.nidingbane.se) and in the reception (where hopefully we will be able to sell protective equpiment and the aluminium and nylon wasters made by Pentti Kangasmaa) as well as t-shirts,books and DvD's, a bowling hall even and of course Club Local!

As last year, we are also aiming to give the event a profile of high intensity and provide a real physical challenge, well we want you to sweat and get real tired and spar a ot and have a damn good time! We will have coached sparring on the schedule, and this year definitely an open hall for sparring and interpretation comparison.

Website now up, visit http://www.ghfs.se/swordfish

Hope to see you there, more info to follow!

LIST OF WORKSHOPS AND LECTURES:

Martin Wallgren (MnHFS), Half Sword from Talhoffer

Kim Moén (MnHFS), demo on Kampfringen in MMA (this is gonna be interesting!)

David Lindholm (MHFS) , Staff

Roland Warzecha (Hammaborg) Sword and Viking shield

Milo Thurston (LSD), smallsword (1), pugilism (2)

Hans Jörnlind (independent, former ARMA Sweden) Rapier from Fabris

Todd Törnqvist & Johan Lundby Söderstam (SHFS), sabre

James Marwood (Schola Gladiatoria), modern combatives (1), Bartitsu (2)

Björn Sollander & Johan Rydstedt (UES), messer (1), wrestling from Nicholaes Petter (2)

Ilkka Hartikainen (SESH), Fiores spear (1), bolognese spada da filo(2)

Guy Windsor (SESH), falling on hard surfaces (1), freeplay preparation (2)

Claus Sörensen (Laurentsguildet), lecture on Talhoffer from Claus master thesis

Dierk Hagedorn (Hammaborg), winden in German longsword fighting

We will also have coached sparring, where you can sign up alone or in pairs for time with an instructor who observe your sparring (or spar with you) and give you feedback.

So far we have instructors for:

German longsword (Anders Linnard, GHFS)

1.33/Lutegerus: Roland Warcheza (Hammaborg)

Rapier (Hans Jörnlind, independent)

There will also be a hall open for sparring and/or comparision of interpretations or whatever takes your fancy.

As last year, retailers from Albion Europe (http://www.albion-europe.com)and Nidingbane (http://www.nidingbane.se)will be there to display and sell weapons and equipment

That sounds great!

But please this year no soaking of tatami mats next to the sleeping hall. They really stink - The mats too

Perhaps we can even pick up our copy of the swordfish 2007 DVD then... :?

So Matty struck the very first blow - and he hurt lord Arnold sore.
Lord Arnold struck the very next blow - and Matty struck no more...

Hehe, we will do our best with the tatami mats.

And we are very embarrassed for the DvD, so far it has been delayed and delayed due to illness (seriously, it was not a cold), but besides that it is real poor form by us not to have released it by now (or bu early spring, really..), I can only say that we are doing our best.

@Claus, lets do both port and sparring as much as time allows :D , I am especially looking forward to it now that I had to miss out on your gathering with Hammaborg :(

Hi Axel.

So is the date definite?
The earlier we book our flights, the cheaper.
And what about the online registration form and event info?
Still the old stuff online.

Hi Roland!

yes the date is as definite as we can make it (unless something completely unexpected happens that is),

I just saw that the webmaster for Swordfish, Andreas, just posted that an updated webbpage hopefully with registration forms etc, will be up next week.

Sorry for responding so late.

Hi all

I have just recently started medieval re-enactment and joined a fight group in Denmark. We do swordfighting, but not on any high technical level and Im interested in learning more.

So my question is, what are the requirments for joining your training camp? And what kind of equipment is needed.

Thanks.

Hi Jan,
there are no requirements to come to Swordfish. Some classes may require equipment or previous knowledge, but far from many. I promise you will have a great time if you join us at Swordfish.

I just thought it was a bit rude to call him shortly.
