Advice: Fencing Jacket

Postby Motley » 31 Jan 2014 19:21

I am still in need of a new one :-(. A year ago I was going to buy an AP, is it still top dog?

Cheers,
Dan.

I would say it is. I still love mine. Definitely seems to be the most popular one still also.

In short, yes. It is the standard HEMA jacket. The only down side has been the erratic and insufficient quality of the zips.

Sorry to bump this lads, but I am looking for a new jacket myself in place of a Gambeson that I feel has insufficient padding for broadsword work. The Gambo I have is fine for Rapier and Small Sword but it won't protect me from full blooded torso blows with a Backsword or Broadsword - yes I know we strive not to get hit but that's the point of wearing protection, for the days when we are less than perfect!

I am wondering how much protection and how suitable is the SPES AP vs AF (Absolute Force) jacket vs the LP (Leon Paul) coaches jacket for something like Silver? Which of these gives the best protection and padding with deference to arms above head articulation without the jacket riding up over the hips?

Your advice appreciated ... cheers!

T.
