There's a double-ended screw between the shaft and the ball. I never tried to twist off the ball to see if the ball has been glued on to the screw as well.

I'll also add in a wooden truncheon for another £20- both are serviceable but since they aren't antique nor can I use them to hit my chums with they don't fit into my collections at the moment and are redundant.

It's a modern repro, I just clove-hitch a length of paracord to it.
