Paul, have you ever tried making traditional planked shields, pavices etc? I know a fair few people who would be interested in traditionally made shields.

I could certainly do traditional shields.

Problem is, shields plus already do most kinds of shield to a high standard for a low price.

I could do the larger pavises and custom shields though

They do plywood shields, whereas there doesn't seem to be much available in the way of traditional plank constructed shields - especially for rotella for example. Not only are the plywood shields not authentic, but as far as I have seen they only curve in one plane, whereas lots of original shields are curved in two or more planes (or even domed).

these are listed in a basic price order, with the last 3 very limited in terms of availability and/or size.

The leadwood is in very short supply and I can only do things up to 16" long and 1.5 inches in diameter.

I'm currently gestating the idea of Indian clubs with lead cores or interchangeable steel weights, as well as stubby swords with weights. Nothing as refined as the "swing" (TM) From MBlades, but kinder on the wallet.
