Sparring in London

Postby Robert Giszczak » 02 Jan 2011 03:27

Could all people aware of any informal longsword sparring events taking place in London on a regular basis share information, please. Since the improved plastics have arrived now perhaps might be the time to have a bit closer look at sword combat outside regular club/group activities? Suggestions and scaremongering equally welcome.

We spar in Regents Park on Saturdays during the summer. We've been looking for a suitable (ie cheap & central) indoor venue for a while.
The Abomination is dead. Long live the Abomination.

We got off to a good start; had first session in Regents Park, me and London Sword & Dagger Club guys on Sat 14th. 3 hours of sparring and occasionally some discussions about both important and unimportant stuff. Sparring sessions are open to everybody: bring Dave Rawlings longsword simulator (the latest grey one ideally with steel guard if possible) mask and gambeson. We've already realized that without full protection we cannot push it to far without the fear of sustaining an injury.
Saturday 3 p.m., the fountain near the London ZOO and off we go.

Glad you had fun.

Yup, you really need to wear at least gambeson / coaches jacket for sparring with nylon.
