I met a strange little sword last weekend

At the American Smallsword Symposium this past weekend, I met myself a strange little sword. Here's some cellphone pics:

(It's the "Aarming-sword-like" piece with an "S" guard, and only that one, that I'm on about)

I brought like 400,000 foils and other misc. mixed weapons to the event, but no spiffy camera equipment, so that's as good as I got them.

So what do you make of this? Exactly one other person at the event had any idea, and he referred to it as a Schivona (a predecessor with the same name), relating it to the other more obviously schiavona basket-hilt sword. They did have a few features in common, but I have no opinion.

To me, it reminded me of the pictures we see in Hope:

Perfect match? No, but it reminds me of them. Those, last I recall, were referred to by some people as a "scarf sword" or "pillow sword". However, from what little I found on those weapons, they usually had triangular thrusting blades, not ones like this. That information could be wrong, however.

McBane seems to draw them as well: http://www.essentialstyleformen.com/wp- ... _icon3.jpg

Other than a cosmetic similarity to what I've seen in those two Scottish sources (and I swear I've seen it somewhere else as well), I've got nothing. Any ideas?

When I was a fighting-man, the kettle-drums they beat,
The people scattered gold-dust before my horses feet;
But now I am a great king, the people hound my track
With poison in my wine-cup, and daggers at my back.
