FFAMHE - the French HEMA Federation

Postby Fab » 25 Jan 2012 16:23

Hi all

I'm simply forwarding (and translating) this :

Dijon, the 22nd of January 2012

After 12 years of work, of meeting and sharing, the French community of HEMA practitioners, gathered on October 22nd in L’Isle-Adam, decided to create a structure that would allow the recognition of the work accomplished by the associations and groups composing it (listed below). For this, it seemed sensible to create a viable entity that would be acknowledged for its expertise in HEMA.
These associations, represented by specialists from different backgrounds (academics, private researchers, practitioners, martial artists etc), given the cultural, historical and martial richness necessary to the greater understanding of the ancient Arts, therefore have decided out of a common, consented will, to regroup and to create the Fédération Française des Arts Martiaux Historiques Européens (FFAMHE). This latter association has been officially declared at the sous-préfecture of L’Hay-les-Roses on the 28th of December 2011.

Founding associations :
- CREATIF (Conservatoire Régional d’Escrime Artistique et de Théâtre d’Ile de France)
- REGHT (Recherche et Expérimentation du Geste Historique et Technique)
- Ecole Chevaleresque d'Art Martial Historique Européen
- PEAMHE (Pôle d’Etude des Arts Martiaux Historiques Européens)
- Compagnie Saint Guilhem
- ARCA (Ateliers de Reconstitution de la Croix d’Argent)
- Association pour la Recherche et le Développement des Arts Martiaux Historiques Européens – Ile de France (A.R.D.A.M.H.E.-I.D.F.), Arts d’Armes
- De Taille et d'Estoc - Association Bourguignonne de Recherche et de Développement des Arts Martiaux Historiques Européens
- Cercle des Escrimeurs Libres Nantais (CLEN)
- Clair de Lame
- EPEE Médiévale
- Lugdunenses

Elected directorate :
President : Guillaume Vaillaut (De Taille et d'Estoc – Dijon)
Vice-President : Didier de Grenier (ARDAMHE-IDF – Paris)
Secretary : Alexander Pierre (PEAMHE – Paris)
Vice-Secretary: Pierre Alexandre Chaize
Treasurer : Rémi Deyme (CREATIF – L’Isle-Adam)
Vice-Treasurer : Sébastien Causse

Among the founding members can be recognised several French HEMAC members : Franck Cinato, Thomas Schmuziger, Damien Dyon, Oliver Dupuis… as well as leading personalities on the French HEMA scene : Olivier Delannoy, Simon Landais, Yann Bauzin…

This federation aims to gather the French associations in a national-scale structure, so as to help HEMA get recognition and development on local, regional and national scales, and to emulate and facilitate the research, study, practice and promotion of Historical European Martial Arts in a legal and modern frame.
(see article 2 of the statutes – section D : « objet publié au Journal Officiel »)

In agreement with the fundamental principles of HEMA as developped by the Historical European Martial Arts Coalition (researching, understanding, practicing, promoting), and as the claimed object of its being, the FFAMHE proposes to strengthen the current dynamics on the French HEMA scene by :
- setting up exchange of information on the martial disciplines and methods of practice
- providing advice, contacts, ideas to associations to help them in their daily life and in their growth (communication strategies, funding requests, public and private partnerships...)
- promoting HEMA through national media channels
- helping HEMA being recognised on a national level in all their specific aspets (cultural, physical, heritage..)
- obtaining nationalk and european funds

Already since its creation, the FFAMHE has already started working on the following :

- Redaction of a French AMHE Charter, that is to be added to the official documents of the federation (statutes and inner regulations). This Charter will be a vade-mecum destined to provide a frame and guidelines to the practice, each association being then free to give any shape to the said practice
- Reflecting on outreach and consolidating the current dynamics
- working with makers to develop HEMA-specific gear
- Launching a survey « Prospective sur le développement de la pratique des AMHE en France »

The results of these works, as well as all relevant information about the FFAMHE will be available on the official website :
http://www.ffamhe.fr
You can contact us by writing to FFAMHE, chez Didier de Grenier, 7 avenue de la Croix du Sud, 94550 Chevilly-Larue, or by email : contact*AT*ffamhe.fr

For the Board of Directors
Guillaume Vaillaut, president

The French Federation for HEMA (FFAMHE) has published an English translation of its Charter. This document summarises the approach to HEMA common to all FFAMHE members (Art d’Armes, De Taille et d’Estoc, etc.).

We hope this may help our friends abroad in their efforts to unite national HEMA groups and practices.

Approximately 500 practitioners nationwide are gathered under the FFAMHE banner as of early 2013.

It is very encouraging to see a significant increase in the number of French HEMA practitioners, compared to the amount shown in HROARR's Great HEMA Census (280 in 2010). Good luck!

Vive le(?) HEMA!

The French HEMA community is growing exponentially both in terms of simple practitioners and "researchers".

There are more and more regular gatherings that are organised which helps. The main one attracts 100+ people (L'Isle Adam) and a few others 50+ (Nantes, Le Mans, Saint-Omer, Strasbourg, Montpellier, Paris, etc.).

We have more and more non-longsword groups, which is nice too! (although longsword is the coolest weapon ever, fact 8) )

The visible figure and collective effort within the federation helps but all this was initiated by and still is mainly due to the work of Simon Landais here: he is like Sauron's eye, monitoring the web, getting lone practitioners together and helping them to create a group and grow. He's a secret service agency by himself.

Vive les AMHE! (Arts Martiaux Historiques Européens)
