New Knight Shop Sparring Gloves

Well almost :D

Over the last 6 months almost all time and effort has gone into researching, designing, prototyping and setting up the means to manufacture protective gloves specifically designed for weapons based martial arts. It has slowed up the development of other products but gloves seem to be in very high demand.

We are holding a small tournament next weekend to test the 2 styles of glove that have made it this far. I will be bringing them to FightCamp as well as I value as many opinions/suggestions as possible.

I will post some pictures in the next few weeks once I have made a few final tweaks (for which I need some input from you guys).

The gloves are designed for synthetic and steel sparring. Will be available in 2 grades of toughness. Will be available in a range of colours including a custom option. Are much less bulky than lacrosse gloves. Will be manufactured in the UK. Will be available either fully assembled or in kit form for those who want to save money.

I am looking at a price point between £50 and £75 for assembled gloves (but pushing hard to get this to the lower end). There will of course be club rates as well.

I am now at a stage where I have to look at which grade of leather to use for the palms. I know it is important to make sure the palms are not so thick that you can hardly feel the grip but at the same time not so thin that they wear out within a year. Any suggestions based on the gloves that you currently use?

I haven't had leather wear out on gloves yet - stitching has torn first every time.

Ditto, I haven't ever had the leather on the palm of my gloves wear away. I'm sure a reasonably thin leather would be perfect for the task.

And may I say, fantastic news! If you have them at FightCamp then I may just have to bring some more money to get a pair of them as well....

I've got a pair of cricket gloves I've had for about 7 years and the leather of the palms has all but vanished. I'll try and get some pics.

I'd like gardening glove type inners, because it is thin enough to give good grip, but still fairly tough. Remember that at least one broken blade has entered at someone's palm. Some resistance there is needed, more than lacrosse gloves.

This is excellent news i really look forward to seeing them and hearing the reviews when might they be available for purchase?
I was about to make my own but this saves a huge amount of effort. The leather on welding gloves offers good grip i find though without the thick padding that they have.
Are the gloves to be fingered or mitten?

The leather on the grays hockey gloves (chamois leather I believe) has worn after about 2 years for me.

And awesome news on the gloves.

Thanks for all the suggestions chaps :D We have had experience of quite a few so called "swordsman's gloves" wearing out very quickly and this is an issue we wish to avoid.

Towards the end of this year. There are a lot of injection moulded parts on these gloves so we are in the hands of the toolmakers again  Certainly this year though.

Due to popular demand the gloves are fingered.

A friend got stabbed the other day wearing lacrosse gloves, below the webbing between his fingers, through the palm... Just sayin' considering fingered gloves. That is an unavoidable issue no matter the design I'd say.

Yeah, a friend of mine had the same accident while wearing gauntlets. The issue is not the protection of the hands or the ability to parry. Rightabout anyone can injure their partners in fencing if they try hard enough.

I have to say at this point that in my opinion all steel weapons should have a safety tip on them of some sort, and that pretty much eradicates the possibility of being seriously stabbed between the fingers.

Scrolled tipps, such as Ensifers and Petérs Feders are pretty good for this imo.
