Sorry about poor attendance lately. Life's been busy. I'm off to Atlanta tomorrow for a few weeks, so I'll hopefully see you all at FightCamp, or possibly the Thursday evening before.

Hi Matt.. :)

..er, Nigel's not the easiest person to get a hold of at the best of times lol, so ..y'know.. *shrug*...

Anyways, since you're asking, I'll share some initial thoughts (speaking for myself, obviously):

I think it's good for Schola Gladiatoria to have a central london chapter.
I think it's good for SG8 being a part of a larger organisation.

I'll leave it at that for now, anyone please feel free to comment.

Regards,
Junaid

As an aside, I will add this:- I don't think SG8 takes away potential SG1 to a great degree actually, perhaps at the beginning (which is to be expected when opening a branch in any organisation) but it seems to me that people who find one location or evening convenient do not necessarily find the other equally so.
I wouldnt have thought that it's often that a person has to choose one over the other (I could be wrong). And they have the option of attending both as I do ;) :D

In fact if I'm not mistaken there's been an increase of attendees at both london chapters since SG8's inception and really I would have thought this would be great news for Schola Gladiatoria to have this sort of growth.

Thanks Junaid and also to all the others who have mailed me.

I very much appreciate your views - it is clear that there is a really good strong core of dedicated members in SG8 for whom I have great respect. I know a number of you have become really very competent, which is great, and I would rather help and endorse you becoming a new and friendly group (if that is the way things should naturally move), rather than let the current situation lead to some sort of unhappy fracture further down the line.

In other words, I believe a happy divorce is better than an unhappy marriage. However, fixing the marriage would of course be best of all, and I continue to try and achieve that with Nigel, if that is what Nigel and the SG8 members want.

I hope this makes things a bit clearer.

It is my understanding that SG8 has now become in effect a new group. Hopefully Nigel or one of the secretaries will be able to elaborate on this.
Best of luck and see you at FightCamp :)

SG8 has eveolved into the London Sword & Dagger Club est 1610 (10 past four last Saturday). Training times etc will remain unchanged now. We hope to play a full part in the HEMA scene & will apply for BFHS membership in due course.

Schola members are of course still welcome to train with us & I'm sure some of us will turn up at Ealing occaisionally.

Many thanks to Matt for his help & support over the last few years & I hope the two clubs can cooperate & grow together in the future.

We don't have a web site yet but our facebookpage is here:http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=608548614#!/group.php?gid=145005472197476&ref=mf

Cheers, Nigel

Thank you thank you!!! Appreciate it!!!

Army is excellent so far...

Barracks are over a 100 years old but the food is decent and we have started building up a nice group so time passes by fast!!

Nothing military related as far as training goes so far, only parades and Oath ceremonies...

The real stuff starts this week when we get the guns and we start getting some military training...

I asked, no swords department unfortunately!!!

Congrats!
I mailed Peter when he first posted this, but is this correct? -

Silver’s two works “Paradoxes of Defence” (1599) and “Instructions on My Paradoxes of Defence” (approx. 1604) form the earliest complete fighting manuals in English.

Wouldn't that be Saviolo in 1595?

The London Sword & dagger Club now trains on Fridays 7pm, Coram fields, 93 Guildford street, WC1N 1DN
It is a building attached to a park on the north side of the street.
If you are facing the park it is a white building on the corner to the
right of the park gates.
