The Fencer's Manual - Robert Meikle 1859

This was the first fencing manual to be published in Australia (still a bunch of colonies at the time), published in Melbourne in 1859.

It details the use of the smallsword, and also contains some exercises with Indian clubs and notes on using the sabre. Interestingly, Plate IV seems to be taken straight out of Angelo's Infantry Sword Exercise.

I haven't been able to find any information about the author, Robert Meikle, but if anyone else finds something then I'd love to hear about it. Judging by his advice at the end of the manual concerning sabre vs. bayonet, pike, and cavalry, one would think he has military experience.
