Significant new manuscript find, Cod. Guelf. 38.21 Aug. 2°

James Acutt (Wallhausen) has located another previously-unknown fencing manuscript, the Cod. Guelf. 38.21 Aug. 2° at the Herzog August Bibliothek, Wolfenbüttel. This fascinating work, written by David Lienhart Sollinger (a Freifechter and associate of Paulus Hector Mair who was also involved in the creation of the Munich Cgm 3712), includes both the complete teachings of Augsburg master Jörg Wilhalm Hutter and, even more interesting, a unique treatise on the Messer apparently written by Sollinger himself. The manuscript has been digitized by the library and may be viewed here: http://dbs.hab.de/mss/?list=ms&id=38-21-aug-2f

James has completed an initial draft transcription of the treatise and is currently working on a translation. Anyone interested in assisting in this task should contact him via email or PM. He's already released part of the transcription on his website: http://paleo.eskirmology.co.uk/sollinger/
