Glad to see people enthusiastic, the reason as I have said that a disarm will not count as a point is because of the two weapon combinations, its no good getting a disarm when the person then sticks the dagger in, so we want to see an actual strike I think.

The sabre and spadroon is an interesting point, though once we get to that level theres no reason for not including all manner of other things, and that becomes a freeforall, not that I am complaining, but when I thought this up I wanted to keep it nice and simple. Really it was just down to a rapier tournament, with the smallsword being included because it is a relatively similar weapon with a number of practitioners that could take part.

Hello Nick!

you can get a crash course at fightcamp

Yes please! I would like that very much! rapier is something I would very much like to take up as side-hobby to my longsword-research.

Best wishes

Claus, yep you can definately get a crash course in rapier, you can come and see me at any time we are there to go into that, theres also School of the Sword there who do Rapier.

Glad you will get to play withyour smallsword Andy, you can still do disarms, they just won't count as a point, still enables you to stab your opponent safely, looking forward to this.

To some extent I do (there are interesting aspects to such bouts), but I would rather see more people fencing small-sword so that I can fight them instead. Hopefully the recent studies of Liancour by the DDS will help.

I will be there if I can, and if I am there I will take part, but this is dependent on whether a paid re-enactment event on the same weekend goes ahead.

By the way, seeing as this was my idea, looks like I am the host too, meaning I won't be entering, but thats ok, you can fight me before and after the tournament :)

This is going to be a points based tournament, I will be organising it, and I want three judges for it, I will be one of them, but in order to ensure fair judgements, I want two volunteers to judge with me who aren't from my group, theres no rush, it can be decided on the day if need be,

Additionally I must add that weapon wise, I will have plenty of spare rapiers and daggers if people want to enter but do not have kit. All fights will be done with tipped swords, I will have spare rubber tips for those that need them, so to enter you will need a mask and gloves. As for body protection, its recommended that you wear something padded of some sort, a fencing jacket, gambeson etc. It is possible to use the tipped rapiers with no bodyarmour but a hard hit can bruise and I haven't seen the smallsword tips, so you are recommended to wear something padded, I will do my best to bring spare equipment, but space is very tight in my car!

Anyone can enter, whether you have rapier/smallsword training or not, you can either use what you know, or get a crash course off me or someone else beforehand at the event, its your choice, the tournament is not being judged on form or technique, only hits.

I would love to enter the tournament.
Will take you up on your kind offer of lending a rapier as I do not own one.
I have all the other required equipment.
Will also take you up on your offer of a little tuition before the tournament.

Regards

Mark
