Fight Like Figg! - 29 May

Postby J Marwood » 21 Mar 2011 11:22

One of the proudest names in martial arts. James Figg.

For those not in know Figg was an expert swordsman, stick-fighter and pugilist. He is widely considered the first heavy-weight boxing champion - at a time when bouts were fought without gloves and much in the way of rules. In the early 18th century Figg fought all comers with the broadsword, with his famous motto:

“Here I am. Jemmy Figg from Thame.
I will fight any man in England”

This event brings together 3 of the leading instructors in Europe’s fighting arts for a very special one day seminar. Learn the traditional English arts of the broadsword, smallsword and pugilism. For £55* you get 3 classes of first class instruction. Click here to book now

The instructors are renowned as the best in their field. This is a training day not to be missed!

Martin Austwick (English Martial Arts Academy) - Pugilism
Matt Easton (Schola Gladiatoria) - Broadsword/Sabre
Dr. Milo Thurston (Linacre School of Defence) - Smallsword

Classes start promptly at 10:00 and will finish around 16:30. There will be a lunch break at around 12:30

Discount pricing available - talk to your club instructor or drop me a PM. I'll offer 'mates rates' to forum members.

I am soooooooo annoyed that I already have a prior engagement on this day - I would have loved to have attended! Any chance of this being repeated at another time?

p.s. the HEMAStuff website is great!

Thanks Fran :)

If this one goes well there will definitely be others. I've spoken to a few big name instructors from in and outside HEMA, and it looks like there is interest.

Thanks to all of those who came - the event went off without a hitch and I couldn't be happier with the attendees, the instructors or the hall. Pleased as punch :)

Excellent day; tried out some things that I thought I wouldn't like and came away with a completely changed view. Matt Oz and Milo were, as ever, brilliant. More events, please!

I had a great day and it was nice to meet some new folk, and it was equally nice to see some familiar faces and punch people in them!

Good to see SotS represented so well. Good stuff guys (and gal)!

That was a jolly good event - thanks to James for organising it, and those who attended the classes.

Thanks for organising the event James.

It was great to get a chance to train with the HEMA people.

BTW if anyone on Schola Forum is interested, I organise a small Bartitsu study group based in Battersea, S.W.London. We've lost a few people recently due to pressures of work and family commitments, so we're back down to a hard core of two who meet in the park every Sunday morning. We really want more, so if anyone would be interested in coming along, please message me.

Best wishes,

George

Thanks! Though really, at these events I'm just Milo's pincushion...

Not sure what I did on Sunday, but today is the first day since that I can walk without too much complaining from my legs. Good day!

Hi George, welcome to the forum - you may want to post this also in the general part of the forum, because I reckon a lot of readers who might be interested won't notice this here. 8)
