Happy new year from Schola!! |
| -
On 20/12/05 Schola held the annual Christmas
Tournament. A fantastic effort was put into the
various games, which covered wrestling, dagger, sword
and spear, by all who took part. The climax was the
unarmoured longsword tournament, where Jo Sonnex came
4th, Greg Maginnity 3rd, James Marwood 2nd and Nigel
Plum 1st. Special thanks also to Philippe Willaume for
assisting Gordon Hart and myself in judging the
contests. A few photos can be found
here and videos
here. |

On 03/12/05 fifteen members of Schola travelled to
Brighton to attend the
BFHS AGM.
We had a great time and some views on the event can be
found
here. There will
be photos from the event in our
gallery shortly.
Particular respects go out to Spike, Rupert and the
other
Exiles members
who played with us so eagerly and to the
Sussex Rapier School
and
1595 Club for
organising the event. I also had the great pleasure to
meet Michael Cromarty and Alberto Bomprezzi for the
first time. |

On 01/12/05 Matt Easton lectured on
Fiore, his contemporaries and his treatises at the
Tower of London for the
Arms & Armour
Society.

On 26/11/05 some members of Schola had a day of museum
visits. First we went to the excellent newly re-opened
medieval galleries at the Museum of London. The
MoL has put some very interesting new exhibits in
these galleries, of special interest to us, such as a
pair of 14thC longswords, two 15thC two-handed swords
and a 15thC falchion. After this we went to the
British Museum and then to the excellent
Wallace Collection armouries. You can see a few
pictures from our visit to the MoL
here. |
| -
On 13/11/05 a few members of Schola Gladiatoria spent
a nice day at the Park Lane Arms Fair, where
they handled a great number of antique weapons,
including a few medieval and many renaissance swords,
and met with some friends from Swordforum. |
| -
On
6-8 October 2005 Matt Easton lectured at the
2nd
International Arms & Armour Conference
in Vienna on the development of longswords. Harry of
Dreynschlag has written a report of the event
here. You can see
a few photos
here. |

As a symbol of their very close relationships, Schola
Gladiatoria, STMF and Boar's Tooth Fight School have
entered into a 'chapter' alliance together. |
| -
On the 11/09/05 the Schola test-cutting party
went well - videos put together by Gordon Hart can be
seen
here. We cut
something in the region of 40 fruit, 150 bottles, some
tatami mat and some card and wood, with an assortment
of edged weapons. |
| -
On 3-4/09/05 Matt Easton attended
this excellent
bronze sword-making event.
It was a great little event and
Jeroen
Zuiderwijk
has written a
report of the
event.

STMF also
attended. |
| -
On the weekend of 04-05/06/05 we attended the
excellent bi-annual
BFHS meeting,
organised by the
Exiles. Photos

here.
|
| -
